Virginia Union University’s Tahj Harding scored a career-high 47 points, but Augusta University defeated the Panthers in triple-overtime 92-90 on Sunday, December 3, in Augusta, Ga.

Harding’s scoring output was the most by a VUU player since A.J. English scored 54 points against Saint Augustine’s on February 8, 1990.

It was also the first time a Virginia Union player scored more than 40 points since Terrell Leach scored 42 points against Saint Augustine’s on February 3, 2020.

VUU’s Jakobe Williams scored 13 points while teammate Jonathan King added 11 points in the game.  King also led all players with 14 rebounds.

“I thought our guys fought until the end and we just came up short today against a very good Augusta University team,” said VUU Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jay Butler.  “Tahj Hardingplayed one of the best games that I’ve ever seen as a player and coach at Virginia Union.  He really carried us through regulation and throughout  the three overtimes.”

Virginia Union will now return home to Barco-Stevens Hall to play Livingstone College at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 14.
